Tomislav Mužek has canceled his upcoming performance of Beethoven’s “Fidelio.”

As a result, the Semperoper Dresden announced that Robert Dean Smith will step in for the tenor for the Sept. 23, 2018 performance.

Smith is an established tenor, who has performed at all the major opera companies around the world, including the Metropolitan Opera, Teatro alla Scala, Bayerische Staatsoper, Bayreuth Festival, and Opera de Paris among others. Smith is expected to sing “Die Walküre” this season at the Hamburg State Opera, Teatro San Carlo, and Seoul Arts Center. He will also perform the title role of “Parsifal” at the Hamburg State Opera.

Mužek is expected to return for the last three performances of “Fidelio” in October.

Smith joins a cast that also includes Jacquelyn Wagner, Albert Dohmen, and Markus Marquardt. Jonathan Darlington conducts the production.
