Pacific Opera Project To Present West Coast Premiere Of ‘La Gazzetta’

By Francisco Salazar

On June 28, 2018, the Pacific Opera Project will present the west coast premiere of Giacomo Rossini’s rarely performed “La Gazzetta.”

“La Gazzetta” premiered in Naples in 1816, ran for 21 performances and was revived once, in 1928. It was not seen on stage again until England’s Garsington Opera presented it in 2001, followed by 2005 productions at the Rossini Festival in Pesaro and the Gran Theatre del Liceu. The first performances in the US were given in Boston at the New England Conservatory in 2013, and POP’s production will be only the second in North America with the addition of a newly commissioned orchestral reduction by Music Director Brooke DeRosa.

Artistic Director Josh Shaw will direct the new production, which is set to star Scott Levin, Rachel Policar, Armando Contreras, Kyle Patterson, Molly Clementz, Jessie Shulman, Scott Ziemann, and Phil Meyer.

“La Gazzetta” will also be performed on June 29, 30, July 6, and 7, 2018 at The Highland Park Ebell Club.
