Opéra de Montréal Commissions New Opera ‘La Beauté Du Monde’

The Opéra de Montréal has announced the world premiere of “La beauté du monde (The Beauty of the World),” an original work with a libretto by Michel Marc Bouchard and music by Julien Bilodeau.

The new opera will be presented in Montreal in the spring of 2021 and was born after the May 2016 premiere of the opera “Les Feluettes” at the Opéra de Montréal.

Renowned playwright Michel Marc Bouchard, who has recently also become a librettist, approached the institution’s Artistic Director Michel Beaulac with a deeply moving true story on which he wanted to base a new work. Composer Julien Bilodeau quickly joined the project after the world premiere of “Another Brick in The Wall – The Opera.”

This is the fifth world premiere for the company, which has been an advocate for presenting first performances of new operas for the past years. Since 2014 the company has presented such works as “Silent Night,” “Dead Man Walking”  “JFK,” and “Therese Raquin” among others.

The Opéra de Montréal next presents Ana Sokolovic’s new opera “Svabda” in March and Gounod’s “Roméo et Juliette” in May.
