Maria Agresta, René Barbera & Lisette Oropesa Lead Teatro Dell’Opera Di Roma

The Teatro dell’Opera di Roma has announced its 2018-19 season featuring numerous new productions and a number of up and coming singers.

New Productions

The season opens with a new production of Verdi’s beloved “Rigoletto.” Daniele Gatti conducts the new production by Daniele Abbado. Ismael Jordi, Roberto Frontali, Lisette Oropesa, Riccardo Zanellato and Alisa Kolosova lead the illustrious cast of performers.

Performance Dates:  Dec. 2-18, 2018

Maria Agresta leads a new production of Donizetti’s “Anna Bolena.” The opera, which has only been presented twice in the company’s history, will be directed by Andrea De Rosa. Carmela Remigio also stars in her role debut as Giovanna Seymour alongside Alex Esposito and René Barbera. Riccardo Frizza conducts.

Performance Dates: Feb. 20- Marc 1, 2019

Robert Carsen directs a new production of Gluck’s “Orfeo ed Euridice.” The new production, which is in co-production with Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, Château de Versailles Spectacles and the Canadian Opera Company will be conducted by Gianluca Capuano. Carlo Vistoli, Mariangela Sicilia, and Emoke Barath star.

Performance Dates: Marc 15-22, 2019

Lehar’s “The Merry Widow” returns to the Opera di Roma for the first time since 2007. The new production by Damiano Michieletto in co-production with  Teatro La Fenice di Venezia will be conducted by Constantin Trinks and will star Nadja Mchantaf, Paulo Szot, Anthony Michaels-Moore, Adriana Ferfecka, and Peter Sonn.

Performance Dates: April 14-20, 2019

Alejo Pérez conducts Emma Dante’s new production of Prokofiev’s “The Fiery Angel.” Leigh Melrose, Evgenia Muraveva, Sergey Radchenko, Maxime Paster, Mairam Sokolova, and Goran Jurić star in the opera, which returns for the first time since 1966.

Performance Dates: May 23-June 1, 2019

Emma Dante directs Rossini’s “La Cenerentola” with Teresa Iervolino in the title role alongside René Barbera, Vito Priante, and Carlo Lepore.

Performance Dates: June 8-13, 2019

Graham Vick concludes the Mozart/Da Ponte trilogy with a production of “Don Giovanni.” Jérémie Rhorer conducts the new production which stars Alessio Arduini, Juan Francisco Gatell, Vito Priante, Emanuele Cordaro, Maria Grazia Schiavo, Salome Jicia, and Elena Sancho Pereg.

Performance Dates: Sept. 27-Oct. 6, 2019

Charles Workman, Joel Prieto, Rosa Feola, and Miah Persson star in a new production of Mozart’s “Idomeneo.” Michele Mariotti conducts the new interpretation by Robert Carsen, which is a co-production with the Teatro Real de Madrid and the Canadian Opera Company.

Performance Dates: Nov. 8-16, 2019

The season will conclude with the world premiere of Vittorio Montalti and Giuliano Compagno’s new opera “Un romano a Marte.” John Axelrod conducts the new opera, which is set to be directed by Fabio Cherstich.

Performance Dates: Nov. 22-24, 2019

Revivals

Puccini’s “Tosca” returns to the stage in the ever popular production by Alessandro Talevi. Stefano Ranzani conducts a cast that includes Svetlana Kasyan, Giorgio Berrugi, and Fabián Veloz. The production returns in the summer with Jordi Bernàcer conducting Monica Zanettin, Stefano La Colla, and Gevorg Hakobyan.

Performance Dates: Dec. 7-16, 2018 & June 18-26, 2019

Jessica Nuccio leads a revival of Verdi’s “La Traviata” with Antonio Poli and Sebastian Catana.

Performance Dates: Jan. 12-26, 2019

Caracalla and OperaCamion

The company will showcase “Aida” and “La Traviata” at the Caracalla, while “Tosca” will be next season’s OperaCamion.
