Lisette Oropesa Replaces Diana Damrau In ‘Les Huguenots’

Diana Damrau has canceled her upcoming performances in Meyerbeer’s “Les Huguenots.”

The Opéra de Paris announced that due to illness the soprano would not be making her role debut as Marguerite de Valois. As a result, Lisette Oropesa will replace Damrau.

Oropesa is coming off some of her most acclaimed performances in her career. Her “Lucia di Lammermoor” received rousing applause at the Teatro Real di Madrid while her Adina at the Rossini Opera Festival has scored excellent reviews. Oropesa was originally expected to sing “La Traviata” at the Teatro La Fenice in September. She will also sing “L’Elisir d’Amore” at the Opéra de Paris alongside Vittorio Grigolo.

This is Damrau’s third cancelation for the 2018-19 season. Earlier she withdrew from revivals of “Lucia di Lammermoor” at the Opernhaus Zurich and Bayerische Staatsoper. She was replaced by Nina Minasyan in Zurich and Pretty Yende in Munich. The soprano is set to return to the stage in December for a new production of “La Traviata” at the Metropolitan Opera.

“Les Huguenots” opens on Sept. 25 and runs through Oct. 24, 2018.
