La Monnaie / De Munt to Stream ‘Die Tote Stadt’

By David Salazar

La Monnaie / De Munt in Belgium has announced that it will be streaming its production of “Die Tote Stadt” through the end of the year.

The opera was presented twice before the continued spread of COVID-19 forced the company to shut down its performances for the immediate future.

“The coronavirus pandemic forced us to halt our production of Die tote Stadt after only two of the intended eight performances. Behind the scenes, we are hard at work to present you with a reviewed second half of the season,” the company announced in a press release.

The opera stars Dietrich Henschel, Bernadetta Grabias, martina Russomanno, Lily Jørstad, Florian Hoffmann, Nikolay Borchev, and Mateusz Zajdel. The production was directed by Mariuez Trelinski with Lothar Koenigs conducting.

Audiences can watch the stream through Dec. 31, 2020 on the company’s official website.
