Joyce DiDonato has cancelled her European performances of Handel’s “Ariodante”

The mezzo-soprano uploaded a video and put out a statement noting that due to a cyst she would need time to recover from a medical procedure.

The statement read, “It is with deep regret that Joyce DiDonato has announced that she will not be able to participate in the European performances of Ariodante with Harry Bicket and The English Concert due to a medical procedure. She is immensely sorry to disappoint her fans and admirers but is hugely grateful to the wonderful Alice Coote for stepping in for the European concerts, and to Harry Bicket and The English Concert for their support and understanding.”

However, she noted that she will be performing the American portion of the tour and that she would still participate in the Met’s 50th anniversary gala.

DiDonato is currently in Strasbourg preparing her role debut as Didon in Berlioz’s “Les Troyens.” she will perform alongside tenor Michael Spyres as Énée, Marie-Nicole Lemieux as Cassandre, and Stéphane Degout sings Chorèbe. Sir John Nelsons will conduct the performances which are scheduled to be recorded for CD.

DiDonato returns to Europe for a tour of her latest CD “In War & Peace: Harmony through Music.”
