Den Norske Opera Announces Its 2018-19 Season

The Den Norske Opera has announced its upcoming 2018-19 season featuring a wide range of repertoire and rising stars as well as some of the leading Norwegian singers in the world.

Here is a look.

Productions 

The season will open with Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” and Enrique Mazzola conducting Richard Jones’s production. Johannes Weisser, Jakob Bloch Jespersen, Brigitte Christensen, and Anthony Gregory star in the production.

Performance Dates: August 8-29, 2018

Lothar Koenigs conducts Tchaikovsky’s “The Queen of Spades” with Peter Wedd, Elizabeth Teige, Boris Statsenko, and Thor Inge Falch starring.

Performance Dates: Sept. 8-25, 2018

Puccini’s “Il Tabarro” and “Gianni Schicchi” will be seen with Jac Van Steen conducting. Ivan Iverardi, Elisabet Strid, Marius Roth Christensen, Ingeborg Kosmo, Mikkel Skorpen, and Jens-Erik Aasbo star in the production.

Performance Dates: Oct. 6-29, 2018

Daniele Callegari conducts Donizetti’s “L’Elisir d’Amore” with Jack Swanson, Claudia Boyle, and John Chest starring.

Performance Dates: Nov. 24, 2018-Jan. 17, 2019

Peter Hoare stars in Britten’s “Billy Budd” with Mark Wigglesworth conducting. John Relyea, Aleksander Nohr, and Johannes Weisser also star.

Performance Dates: Jan. 18-Feb. 16, 2019

Nina Gavrok and Anna Larsson perform in Puccini’s “Suor Angelica” with Jan Van Steen conducting.

Performance Dates: Feb. 9-March 19, 2019

Marita Solberg leads the cast in Strauss’ “Der Rosenkavalier” with Joana Mallwitz conducting Sir David McVicar’s production. Henry Waddington, Adrian Angelico, and Mari Eriksmoen round out the cast.

Performance Dates: March 10-April 13, 2019

Mozart’s “Die Zauberflöte” is revived with Marius Roth Christensen, Eli Kristin Hanssveen, Carline Wettergreen, Lina Johnson, and Jens-Erik Aasbo starring. Magnus Loddgard conducts.

Performance Dates: April 29-June 23, 2019

Leo Hussain leads Stefan Herheim’s production of Rossini’s “La Cenerentola.” Taylor Staton, Tone Kummervold, Edward Nelson, and Miklos Sebestyen lead the cast.

Performance Dates: May 16-June 18, 2019 

Edvard Fliflet Braein’s “Anne Pedersdotter” gets a concert performance with Peter Szilvay conducting.

Performance Dates: June 14 & 17, 2019

Other programs

The season will offer opera workshops and concerts with Peter Mattei, Karita Mattila, and Diana Damrau.
