Beth Morrison Projects Announces ‘Next Generation’ Finalists

By David Salazar

The “BMP: Next Generation” will showcase works by Michael Lanci and Emma O’Halloran at the National Sawdust on February 20 and 21, 2019.

The two works, about 30 minutes in duration, will include Lanci’s satirical operetta “Crude Capital,” which was written by Ajax Phillips, and O’Halloran’s monodrama “Mary Motorhead,” which was based on a play by her uncle Mark O’Halloran. After the performance, one of the two will be commissioned to create a full-length opera that will be developed, premiered, and toured by Beth Morrison Projects.

“Mary Motorhead” will feature Naomi Louisa O’Connell while “Crude Capitol” stars Megan Nielson, Bernard Holcomb, Jonathan Hays, and Trevor Martin.

“Crude Capitol” will showcase the story of a Congresswoman’s revelation regarding climate change as well as how money affects politics. Meanwhile, “Mary Motorhead” will explore the inner life of a murderess and her misrepresentation in the public eye.

Both groups of artists were advised by Royce Vavrek and Missy Mazzoli.
