Anna Netrebko, Roberto Alagna & Yusif Eyvazov Lead 2018 FIFA World Cup Concert

On the eve of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, Red Square will host an operatic concert featuring some of the world’s greatest singers.

Valery Gergiev will conduct the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra in a gala featuring Anna Netrebko, Yusif Eyvazov, Ildar Abdrazakov, Aida Garifullina and pianist Denis Matsuyev. They will also be joined by Roberto Alagna as a special guest and Albina Shagimurtova.

According to a press statement, “Singers and musicians will gather together to dedicate their performance to the World Cup because sports and music are universal languages that different nations speak. Music and sport make each other stronger and unify people despite their age, gender, job, income, political ideas, or confessions.”

Netrebko and Eyvazov are currently on tour performing in Vienna and London while Abdrazakov is performing “Boris Godunov” in Paris. Garifullina is in Vienna performing in a production of “Rigoletto” while Algana is also in Vienna making his role debut as Samson in “Samson et Dalila”

The concert will be held on June 13.
