2019 Berlin Philharmonic Easter Festival to World Premiere Opera Based on Clara Schumann

By Logan Martell

In celebration of the bicentennial of Clara Schumann, the 2019 Berlin Philharmonic Easter Festival will feature the world premiere of Victoria Bond’s opera, “Clara.“

The opera draws upon the personal lives of Clara Wieck, Robert Schumann, and Johannes Brahms, to tell their story as only an opera can. “Clara” was composed by Bond during her residencies at the Brahms House, located in Baden-Baden, Germany.

This world premiere is produced by the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden, where it will be performed on April 14, 17, and 21, 2019. The Festspielhaus’ 2018-19 program includes such works as “The Odyssey,” “Anna Karenina,” “King Arthur,” and Mozart’s Requiem, among others.

Bond is a renowned composer and conductor, whose works include the chamber opera, Mrs. President.
