Zoran Todorovich Replaces Jonas Kaufmann In Munich

By Francisco Salazar

The Bayerische Staatsoper has announced a cast change for the July 15, 2019 performance of “Otello.”

Jonas Kaufmann will no longer sing the title character, which he performed on July 12. As a result, Zoran Todorovich will sing the Otello, one of his signature role.

Todorovich is a well-known “Otello” who has performed the opera all over the world. Of his interpretation in Bogotá, Colombia, OperaWire noted that the tenor was “visceral” and had “power and strength.” The Serbian tenor has performed in Hannover, Zurich, Hamburg, and Munich, among other cities, and his next performances will br at the Puccini Festival.

Todorovich joins a cast that includes Anja Harteros and Gerald Finley. Kirill Petrenko conducts the production by Amélie Niermeyer.

Kaufmann returns to the stage on July 27 and 31 for “Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg” at the Bayerische Staatsoper.
