By Francisco SalazarBelgium’s Zomeropera has canceled its upcoming production of “Madama Butterfly” due to COVID-19.
The famed Puccini work was set to star Cecilia Violetta Lopez in the title role.
“Not all news is good news, unfortunately. COVID strikes again, my friends. I’m saddened to formally announce that my return to Zomeropera to reprise the role of Cio-Cio San in their stunning production of ‘Madama Butterfly’ directed by my dear friend, Frank Van Laecke, has been cancelled,” Lopez announced.
“I was so looking forward to being a part of this beautiful remount, and sharing with so many friends who had planned to attend the opera the magnificence of Alden Biesen Castle in Belgium, but safety first.”
The company is still set to present “Villa Lehar” this summer and will also present a Closing concert.
