Bass-baritone Zachary James will present a recital at Carnegie Hall dedicated to music by women on Nov. 30, 2020.

Other performers on the recital include pianist Charity Wicks, baroque guitarist Brandon J. Acker, cellist Jeffrey Zeigler, and soprano Megan Nielson. Ellen Jackson will direct the concert.

Among the pieces featured on the program will be Juliana Hall’s “Ahab,” Kristin Hevner’s “The Raven,” and Paola Prestini’s “The Old Man and the Sea.” There will also be new pieces by Bonnie Montgomery and Rachel J. Peters, as well as music by Rene Orth, Florence Price Kamala Sankaram, Dame Ethel Smyth, and Barbara Strozzi.

James is coming off a major series of performances in the Met Opera’s productions of “Akhnaten” and “Wozzeck.” Of his work in “Akhnaten,” OperaWire noted “James’ performance, coupled with how the production incorporated him, was arguably the greatest masterstroke of the entire evening.”
