Zachary James, Sydney Mancasola & Laura Wilde Highlight Des Moines Metro Opera’s Virtual Festival

The Des Moines Metro Opera has announced a Virtual Festival.

After the company announced it was canceling the 2020 edition due to the coronavirus pandemic, Des Moines Metro Opera revealed that it would show performances from previous festivals.

The virtual festival kicks off with Massenet’s “Manon” starring Sydney Mancasola in the title role, Joseph Dennis, and Michael Adams. David Neely conducts the performance from July 5, 2016.

Streaming Date: June 28, 2020

Joyce Castle and Elden Little will headline a 2019 performance of “Bon Apetit” by Lee Hoiby.

Performance Date: June 28, 2020

Sara Gartland will sing the title role in a performance of “Rusalka” with Evan LeRoy Johnson, Jill Grove, Zachary James, and Laura Wilde. David Neely conducts the performance from July 3, 2018.

Streaming Date: July 5, 2020

Britten’s “Billy Budd” will also be streamed with a cast that includes Craig Verm, Roger Honeywell, Zachary James, Dennis Jesse, Federico de Michelis, Kristopher Irmiter, Thomas Hammons, and Michael Adams. David Neely conducts the performance from July 11, 2017.

Streaming Date: July 12, 2020

The festival concludes with Rossini’s “Le Comte Ory” in a performance from July 15, 2014. The cast includes Taylor Stayton, Sydney Mancasola, Stephanie Lauricella, and Steven LaBrie. Dean Williamson conducts.
