Yusif Eyvazov & Riccardo Massi Replace Roberto Aronica In Metropolitan Opera’s ‘Turandot’

The Metropolitan Opera has announced a cast change for its upcoming revival of Puccini’s “Turandot.”

The company announced that Roberto Aronica has withdrawn from the role of Calàf due to personal reasons. As a result, Yusif Eyvazov will sing Calàf in the Oct. 3, 6, 9, and 12 while Riccardo Massi will sing the role in performances on Oct. 19 23, 26. The singer for the role in the Oct. 31 performance will be announced at a later date.

Eyvazov made his Metropolitan Opera debut in the role back in 2015 and will perform in a revival of Tchaikovsky’s “The Queen of Spades” and the New Year’s Eve gala this season. Massi made his Metropolitan Opera debut in 2012 in the role of Radames in Verdi’s “Aida.”

The two tenors join a cast that includes Christine Goerke, Eleonora Buratto, and James Morris. Yannick Nézet-Séguin and Marco Armiliato will alternate at the podium.

The Oct. 12 performance is set to be presented Live in HD.
