Yusif Eyvazov has been appointed director of the Azerbaijan State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater.

The tenor was appointed to the position by the first deputy minister of culture, acting minister Adil Karimli.

Eyvazov is a dramatic tenor who performs around the world at the Teatro alla Scala, Paris Opera, Berlin State Opera, Arena di Verona, Teatro Real, Operhaus Zürich, and Deustche Oper Berlin. He has also performed at the Metropolitan Opera and the Royal Opera House.

This season he is set to return to the Teatro alla Scala in a production of “Andrea Chenier” and the Arena di Verona for productions of “Aida” and “Rigoletto.” He is also set to open the Berlin State Opera’s 2023-24 season in a new production of “Aida.”
