Young People’s Chorus of New York City Nominated for Emmy

The world-renowned Young People’s Chorus of New York City has been nominated for the 65th Annual New York Emmy® Award in the Children/Youth (12 and Under) Long Form Content category.

The chorus was nominated for one of its two-part 2020 virtual holiday special, “Once Upon the Holidays” which debuted on Dec. 14, 2021 on ALL ARTS, a New York Emmy-winning arts and culture hub created by the WNET Group.

The special was originally streamed online in December 2020 and had been conceptualized by YPC Founder and Artistic Director Francisco J. Núñez during a time when choristers and much of the world were in isolation during the early days of the pandemic.

In a statement Núñez said, “We are so honored to be nominated for this prestigious award. When the pandemic hit, we really had to reimagine ways to work with our children around New York City. This special is so meaningful to us because we were able to bring our traditional winter concert into families’ homes everywhere, and choristers were able to share their re-creation of holiday classics online with the global community.  To have Lynn Ahrens and Lester Lynch join us was also truly a holiday gift.”
