The Premios Nacionales de Música 2024 have awarded composer Marisa Manchado and soprano Yolanda Auyanet top prizes.

The awards are given by the Ministry of Culture with the Instituto Nacional de las Artes Escénicas y de la Música (INAEM) and carry a 30.000 euro cash prize.

Manchado won the composer award for her opera “La Regenta” which was produced in 2023 at the Teatro Real and Teatro Español while Auyanet won the singer award for her role debut as Tosca at the Teatro de la Maestranza de Sevilla in 2023.

The jury said that Manchado’s opera is “an updated reading of a classic of universal literature, through which she gives voice to an iconic female character, which underlines the composer’s long commitment to equality.”

Meanwhile, Auyanet was recognized not only for her “Tosca” but also for her extensive career of more than three decades which has seen her perform such roles as Norma, Lucia di Lammermoor, Elisabetta in “Roberto de Devereux,” and the title role of “Lucrezia Borgia.” They also cited her work in Zarzuela which Auyanet has been a big advocate of over her career.
