Yasko Sato, Carolyn Sproul, Simone Osbourne, Grisha Martirosyan, Siphokazi Molteno Headline Calgary Opera’s 2025-26 Season

Calgary Opera has announced its 2025-26 season.

Opening the season is “Madama Butterfly” starring Yasko Sato, Matthew White, Nina Yoshida Nelsen, and Phillip Addis. Mo Zhou directs and Jonathan Brandani condudcts.

Performance Dates: Nov. 1 – 7, 2025

“Little Red Riding Hood” gets a showcase at Mamdani Opera Centre.

Performance Dates: Nov. 28 – Dec. 7, 2025

Then comes “Hansel and Gretel.” Jonathan Brandani conducts and Brenna Corner directs. Carolyn Sproul, Simone Osbourne, and Claire Barnett-Jones star.

Performance Dates: Jan. 31- Feb. 6, 2026

Next up is “The Barber of Seville,” directed by Elizabeth Stepkowskki Tarhan and conducted by Daniela Musca. The opera stars Grisha Martirosyan, Siphokazi Molteno, John Tessier, Giulio Mastrotaro, and Adam Lau.

Performance Dates: April 18 – 24, 2026

“This season, audiences will experience three of the most powerful and iconic operas ever written. We will dip into the breathtaking emotions of ‘Madame Butterfly,’ laugh out loud at the irresistible comedy of ‘Barber of Seville,’ and be carried away by the adventure and magic of ‘Hansel and Gretel,’” said Jonathan Brandani, Calgary Opera’s Artistic Director, in an official press release. “Sought-after Canadian and international artists will join the rising stars of opera to inspire long-time fans and newcomers alike.”
