By Sebastian Turgeon

Yannick Nézet-Séguin has a busy schedule and it will remain so for a long time.

The Canadian conductor has signed a lifetime contract with the Orchestre Métropolitain of Montréal as its Artistic Director and Chief Conductor. Nézet-Séguin is also the Music Director of the Metropolitan Opera since 2018 and maintains the role with the Philadelphia Orchestra since 2012.

Nézet-Séguin made his debuts with the Canadian orchestra in 1998 and became its Artistic Director and Chief Conductor in 2000. Twenty years and 600 concerts later, Nézet-Séguin has decided to commit long-term to his hometown ensemble.

After a successful European tour in 2017, Nézet-Séguin and the Orchestre Métropolitain will tour in the United States in November 2019, with concerts in Chicago, Ann Arbor, New York City (Carnegie Hall) and Philadelphia, accompanied by American mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato.
