Yale Spizzwinks(?) to Perform in New York This October

By David Salazar

The Yale Spizzwinks(?) will perform in Chatham, N.Y., on Oct. 21 and in New York City on Oct. 24 as part of a hometown tour for member Clementine Kline.

Kline, a member of the Yale Class of ’29, is a New York City native with a background in professional musical theater, including work on “Sesame Street” and the Broadway national tour of “A Christmas Story, The Musical.” The group thanked Edgar Acevedo and the Columbia County Youth Theatre for donating sound equipment and coordination for the Chatham date. Kline first discovered performing through the organization’s summer programs.

Founded in 1914, the Yale Spizzwinks (?) perform original vocal arrangements ranging from jazz standards to modern pop. The group recently completed international tours in Peru and New Zealand and has upcoming appearances planned in South Africa, Ireland and France. The ensemble, traditionally all male, became coed four years ago. Each member follows what the group calls the “Spizzwink Promise,” which commits them to visit all six inhabited continents as well as their hometown. The group receives no financial support from Yale University and funds its travel and operations through its performance schedule. It operates as an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit.

Both showcases kick off at 7 p.m.
