Xian Zhang has been named to the position of Principal Guest Conductor of the China NCPA Orchestra.

Zhang is entering her 10th year as Music Director of New Jersey Symphony and is also set to take over as Music Director of the Seattle Symphony this month.

Zhang first collaborated with the China NCPA Orchestra in 2015. In her new role, she will conduct at least two symphony programs each season. This season, she will lead a program of violin concertos with violinist Tianwa Yang and also performs a Rachmaninoff symphony. Later in the year, she performs piano concerts by Ravel and Qigang Chen, as well as a Mozart symphony.

“The development and rise of the NCPA and its orchestra over the past decade have exceeded all my expectations and filled me with immense pride. This appointment reflects the deep mutual trust between us and is a natural outcome of our shared musical vision and spiritual connection,” Zhang said per an official press release.
