Xavier Sabata Replaces Marie-Nicole Lemieux In ‘Agrippina’ Tour

By Francisco Salazar

Marie-Nicole Lemieux has canceled her participation in the upcoming tour of Handel’s “Agrippina.”

The contralto was forced to cancel the tour due to personal reasons. As a result, Xavier Sabata will replace Lemieux singing the role of Ottone.

The contralto is the latest singer to cancel the tour. Previously Kathryn Lewek and Jakub Józef Orliński canceled their participation.

Sabata is an acclaimed countertenor who has performed at some of the greatest theaters including  Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, the Grand Théâtre de Genève, the Theater an der Wien, the Teatro Real Madrid, the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, the Teatro La Fenice in Venice, and the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe, among others.

Sabata will now join Joyce DiDonato, Elsa Benoit, Franco Fagioli, Luca Pisaroni, Andrea Mastroni, and Carlo Vistoli with Il Pomo d’Oro and Maxim Emelyanychev conducting.

The concert tour will take place in Luxembourg, Paris, Madrid, Barcelona, and London.

The tour will begin on May 14 and runs through the 31 with a recording scheduled for release later next year.
