Xabier Anduaga made history on May 10 singing his first encore at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in “Werther.”

Following his interpretation of “Pourquoi me réveiller,” the Barcelona audience lauded the tenor with an immense ovation and Anduaga rewarded them with an encore of the famed aria.

This not the first time Anduaga rewards his audiences with encores. Previously, the tenor had encored at the Wieenr Staatsoper and at the Teatro Pérez Galdós in “Una Furtiva lagrima” during performances of “L’elisir d’amore.”

Anduaga is currently making his role debut as the titular “Werther,” which runs through May 17. The opera will be available on the company’s streaming platform Liceu+ at a later date.

Anduaga next performs at the Paris Opera in “La Traviata.”
