Wrocław Philharmonic Appoints Christoph Eschenbach as Artistic Director

Poland’s Wrocław Philharmonic announced its appointment of Christoph Eschenbach to the role of artistic director.

Eschenbach’s contract was signed at the National Forum of Music meeting on Jan. 8. His tenure begins on Sept. 1, Eschenbach will work closely with Director Andrzej Kosendiak through the end of the 2028-29 season.

Eschenbach said in a press release, “Coming back home to Wroclaw and becoming a member of the NFM family is a deeply emotional moment in my life. My promise to the orchestra, the public and the community, is to offer my musical universe and do everything in my power to develop this great institution. I am very happy to embark on this journey and cannot wait for all the great moments that lie ahead of us.”

The Polish pianist-turned-conductor has worked with the Tonhalle Orchestra, Houston Symphony, NDR Symphony Orchestra, Philadelphia Orchestra, Orchestre de Paris and the Washington National Symphony Orchestra.

He will continue his responsibilities as Musical Director of the Konzerthausorchester Berlin, a position he has held since 2019.
