WQXR & The Metropolitan Opera Announce Season Two Of Podcast ‘ARIA CODE’

The Metropolitan Opera and WQXR, New York City’s classical music station has announced a second season of “Aria Code.”

The new season will debut on Wednesday, Nov. 13 and features host Rhiannon Giddens, the Grammy Award-winning artist and MacArthur “Genius.”

The season will kick off with “Una macchia è qui tuttora,” the sleepwalking scene from Verdi’s Macbeth and will feature Dame Judi Dench, whose theater portrayal of Lady Macbeth is iconic; Anna Netrebko will also appear on this episode, sharing her enthusiasm for this richly complex character and the unique vocal demands of the role. Additionally former Washington Post classical critic Anne Midgette will showcase her insight on Verdi’s dramatic sensibility, as will Tana Wojczuk, writer and writing teacher at New York University.

The new season will also feature episodes spotlighting such arias as “Un bel dì”  from Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly,” “Summertime” from Gershwin’s “Porgy and Bess,” “Dove sono” from Mozart’s “Le Nozze di Figaro,” and “In questa reggia” from Puccini’s “Turandot,” with performances by Ana María Martínez, Golda Schultz, Susanna Phillips, and Christine Goerke.
