Works & Process at the Guggenheim to Present Tobias Picer & Aryeh Lev Stollman’s ‘Awakenings’

Works & Process at the Guggenheim will present Opera Theatre of Saint Louis’ “Awakenings” on April 5, 2020. The opera is set to have its world premiere at the Opera Theatre of Saint Louis on June 7, 2020.

Before the first performance, the Guggenheim will present a special moderated discussion with creators Aryeh Lev Stollman and Tobia Picker, who will be joined by original cast members Joyce El-Khoury, Paul Groves, Jarrett Logan Porter, and David Portillo.

The work, which is written by Aryeh Lev Stollman and Tobias Picker, recounts the story of many in the 1920s who succumbed to a mysterious sleeping sickness and a young doctor’s fighting to bring them back to life.

Porter will take on the role of Dr. Oliver Sachs in the world premiere with El-Khoury appearing as Rose R. Deborah Nansteel will play Miriam H, while Frederica von Stade will interpret Iris L and Portillo will be Mr. Rodriguez. Groves will take on the role of Leonard L.

Other cast members for the world premiere production include Nathan Stark, Jasmin White, Elliott Page, Olivia Cosio, Lindsey Reynolds, Christopher Humbert, Bianca Orsi, Angel Azzarra, and Tyler Zimmerman. Roberto Kalb will conduct with James Robinson directing.
