
Works & Process Announces Experiments in Opera’s ‘Custom of the Coast’
By Francisco SalazarWorks & Process and Experiments in Opera are set to present “Custom of the Coast” by Kamala Sankaram and Paul Muldoon.
The event will take place on Feb. 9, 2025, at the National Sawdust.
The evening will showcase a first look at a new opera intercutting the life stories of an eighteenth-century Irish pirate who was sentenced to death and an Indian-born, Irish dentist who died in 2012 after being denied an abortion.
Composer Kamala Sankaram and librettist Paul Muldoon will participate in a discussion regarding the work.
The event will also showcase excerpts from the opera and will see musicians Anchal Dhir, Rocky Duval, Danny O’Mahony, and the FLUX Quartet.
Works & Process champions performing artists and their creative process for each step from studio to stage. It also features artists both those from the world’s largest organizations and emerging new talent and amplifies performing arts traditions that transcend the stage.
