Works and Process to Showcase Boston Lyric Opera & Opera Philadelphia: ‘The Anonymous Lover’

Works & Process at the Guggenheim is to present “Boston Lyric Opera and Opera Philadelphia: The Anonymous Lover” with Music by Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges.

The event will be held on Jan. 25, 2024 at the Guggenheim’s Peter B. Lewis Theater in New York.

On the occasion of OPERA America’s National Trustee Weekend and prior to the premiere of the Boston Lyric Opera and Opera Philadelphia’s co-production of “The Anonymous Lover,” OPERA America’s President and CEO Marc A. Scorca will moderate a discussion with Boston Lyric Opera’s Stanford Calderwood General Director and CEO Bradley Vernatter and Opera Philadelphia’s General Director and President David Devan exploring how they are working together to co-produce a new production.

The evening will also feature Obie Award-winning Boston playwright Kirsten Greenidge, who has created a new adaptation of the opera that mixes new English dialogue with the original French singing, and director Dennis Whitehead Darling. Tenor Omar Najmi and soprano Brianna J. Robinson will perform excerpts from the opera.

“The Anonymous Lover” is set to be performed in Boston from Feb. 16-18, 2024 at The Huntington Theatre and then at Philadelphia’s Academy of Music for two performances, Jan. 31 and Feb, 2, 2025.
