The Dessoff Choirs is set to open its 100th anniversary season with Brahms’ German Requiem.

The performance, which will be led by Music Director Malcolm J. Merriweather will be held on Nov. 2, 2024, at The Town Hall. According to the ensemble, this program holds special significance as Brahms and Otto Dessoff were friends. Brahms provided Dessoff the opportunity to conduct the premiere of his Symphony No. 1, and Dessoff dedicated his String Quartet in F, Op. 7 to Brahms.

Conductors Kent Tritle and Christopher Shepard will speak and conduct some of the “Requiem” movements. Vocal soloists include Joelle Harvey and Will Liverman.

This season, Liverman returns to the Metropolitan Opera and performs with the Dutch National Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, and makes his debut at the San Francisco Opera. Meanwhile, Harvey has performed with the Glimmerglass Festival, Metropolitan Opera, and Royal Opera.
