The Wiener Staatsoper has announced that it will continue its partnership with ORF in January presenting “Nabucco.”

The company announced that due to the spread of COVID-19, it will not be able to go ahead with its originally planned January programming. As a result, the company first present Piotr Beczała’s Viennese role debut as “Werther” from a December stream on Jan. 10 through ORF III. Then it will showcase a revival of Verdi’s “Nabucco” starring Plácido Domingo on Jan. 24.

The stream will be presented in celebration of the legendary singer’s  80th birthday on Jan. 22nd. The opera will be performed without an audience and will be broadcast on ORF III.

The broadcast is the latest opera Wiener present without an audience following “Tosca,” “Die Fledermaus,” “Werther,” and “Der Rosenkavalier.”
