Wiener Staatsoper Names New Concertmaster

The Wiener Staatsoper has named a new concertmaster.

The position will be taken by 25-year-old Yamen Saadi who will assume the joint role at both the Wiener Staatsoper and Vienna Philharmonic starting during the 2022-23 season.

Saadi, born in Nazareth, studied the violin at the Barenboim-Said Conservatory and then went on to study with the Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra concertmaster, Chaim Taub. He joined the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra at the age of 11 and six years later became concertmaster of the orchestra.

He passed the audition for the Wiener Staatsoper concertmaster in June and assumed the position on Oct. 26, performing “Sleeping Beauty.”

As a soloist, he has performed with the Israel Philharmonic, Staatskapelle Berlin, Chamber Orchestra of Europe, Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra, Orquestra de València, Kremerata Baltica, Harvard Orchestra, Galilee Chamber Orchestra, and the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra.

He has won the Aviv and Paul Ben Haim Competition and is the co-founder of the Chianti Ensemble.
