Wiener Staatsoper Closes Due to Coronavirus Outbreak

The Wiener Staatsoper has canceled all of its remaining March performances due to the coronavirus.

The company stated, “following the Austrian Federal government’s decision which has just been announced, all performances and events of the Vienna Wiener Staatsoper will be provisionally cancelled as of today until 31 March.”

They added, “All customers will be directly contacted by the various organisers over the next few days, if possible. Tickets for events from 10 to 31 March 2020 may be returned until 30 June 2020 against reimbursement of the purchase price. Holders of subscriptions, flexible subscription and cycles will be informed separately by the Wiener Staatsoper”

The Wiener Staatsoper is the latest in a line of theaters to close due to the outbreak of the coronavirus. The Teatro alla Scala, Teatro Regio di Parma, Teatro la Fenice, Seoul Arts Center, and Royal Opera House Muscat have all closed.

The Austrian government banned travelers from Italy with a medical certificate as 99 cases of coronavirus have been confirmed.
