The Wiener Staatsoper has announced an opera change for Jan. 2, 2022.

The company noted that “due to Omicron infections in the vocal ensemble, the first performance of the revival of “La bohème” has been canceled.

As a result, the company will present “Tosca” with Malin Byström in the title role. The soprano will return to the Wiener Staatsoper following her successful house debut as Elisabeth de Valois in “Don Carlo” last season.

She will be joined by Luciano Ganci as Cavaradossi and Gevorg Hakobyan as Scarpia, who were already performing the opera in the company’s revival. Bertrand de Billy conducts.

Tickets already purchased for Jan. 2 remain valid for the “Tosca” performance, but can also be returned. Buyers will be informed by the company’s ticket partner Cultrall by email about the cancellation.

The Wiener Staatsoper’s “La bohème” revival will now open on Jan. 6 and will be performed through Jan. 16, 2022.
