After it had announced that conductor Michael Boder would replace Mikko Franck in both presentations of Strauss’ “Salome” on January 20 and January 24, the Wiener Staatsoper formally notified the audiences that Michael Boder had to withdraw from the performance on January 20 due to illness.

Dennis Russell Davies will take over the musical direction in his stead. Davies will lead a cast that includes Herwig Pecoraro, Waltraud Meier, Lise Lindstrom, Michael Volle, Carlos Osuna, Ulrike Helzel, Pavel Kolgatin, Thomas Ebenstein, Peter Jelosits, Benedikt Kobel, Sorin Coliban, Alexandru Moisiuc, Hans Peter Kammerer, Marcus Pelz, and Dan Paul Dumitrescu.

Dennis Russell Davies has recently conducted Eötvös’s opera “Tri Sestri” at the Staatsoper Frankfurt, “Salome” and Verdi’s “Falstaff” at the Landestheater Linz, as well as Stravinsky’s “Oedipus Rex” at the Salzburger Landestheater, among others.

Michael Boder is still set to conduct the presentation of “Salome” on January 24. The production is by Boleslaw Barlog.
