The Wiener Staatsoper has announced that conductor Evelino Pidò will take over the musical direction of Donizetti’s “La Fille du Régiment” on Sept. 26, 2020.

Pidò will lead the cast that includes Jane Archibald in the role of Marie, Javier Camarena as Tonio, Carlos Álvarez in the role of Sulpice, Maria Happel as Duchesse de Crakentorp, Donna Ellen as Marquise de Berkenfield, and Marcus Pelz as Hortensius.

Laurent Pelly is the director.

Pidò is the latest in a series of cast changes that were brought on by the COVID-19 outbreak at the Wiener Staatsoper, and the subsequent struggle of the opera house to contain the contagion. The company saw numerous cast changes in its recent production of “L’Elisir d’Amore.”
