Wiener Staatsoper Announces Multiple Cast Changes For ‘Don Carlo’

The Wiener Staatsoper has announced multiple cast changes for its upcoming production of Verdi’s “Don Carlo.”

Following the replacement of Asmik Grigorian in the role of Elisabetta di Valois; Ain Anger replaces Dmitry Ulyanov as the Grand Inquisitor; while René Pape replaces Anger in the role of Philippo II.

The rest of the cast includes María José Siri in the role of Elisabetta di Valois, Boris Pinkhasovich as Rodrigo, Ekaterina Gubanova as Eboli, Isabel Signoret as Tebaldo, Dan Paul Dumitrescu as the Monk, Robert Bartneck as Herold, Ileana Tonca as the Voice from Heaven, and Fabio Sartori in the title role.

Philippe Jordan conducts a production by Daniele Abbado.

The run of “Don Carlo” begins on Dec. 16, and will end on Dec. 25, 2021, for a total of four performances.
