Wiener Staatsoper Announces Multiple Cast Changes

The Wiener Staatsoper has announced multiple cast changes for the upcoming performances of Gounod‘s “Faust” and Verdi‘s “Nabucco.”

Per an official press release, tenor John Osborn will sing the title role in “Faust” on Nov. 7, 2021, replacing Stephen Costello. Osborn joins a cast that includes Rachel Willis-Sørensen as Marguerite, Adam Palka as Méphistophélès, and Étienne Dupuis in the role of Valentin. The rest of the cast includes Ilja Kazakov, Margaret Plummer, and Monika Bohinec. Bertrand de Billy conducts a production by Frank Castorf.

Costello is still scheduled to sing the final performance on Nov. 11, 2021.

Per the same press release, tenor Freddie De Tommaso will replace Massimo Giordano in the role of Ismaele in Verdi’s “Nabucco” for the performance on Nov. 6, 2021. De Tommaso joins a cast that includes María José Siri, Szilvia Vörös, Roberto Tagliavini, and Amartuvshin Enkhbat in the title role. Paolo Carignani conducts a production by Günter Krämer.

Giordano is still slated to sing the final two performances on Nov. 9 & 12, 2021.
