Wiener Staatsoper Announces Chorus Change for ‘Eugene Onegin’

By Francisco Salazar

The Wiener Staatsoper has announced a chorus change for its production of “Eugene Onegin.”

The company noted that instead of the Slovak Philharmonic Choir, the choir of the Vienna State Opera will sing in all performances of “Eugene Onegin.”

The change comes two days after the Slovak Philharmonic Choir was forced to pull out during the opening night performance on Oct. 15 due to COVID-19.

This also marks the second change for “Eugene Onegin” after Nicole Car was forced to cancel due to illness and was replaced by Asmik Grigorian and Elena Guseva.

“Eugene Onegin,” which is set to be presented until Oct. 26, also stars Anna Goryachova, Larissa Diadkova, Andrè Schuen, Bogdan Volkov, and Dimitry Ivashchenko. Tomáš Hanus conducts Dmitri Tcherniakov’s production.
