The Wiener Staatsoper has announced a double cast change for its production of Richard Strauss’ “Salome.”

Per an official statement on the company’s website, tenor Carlos Osuna will perform the role of Narraboth and tenor Robert Bartneck will take on the role of the Third Jew in the presentation of the opera on Oct. 8, 2020.

Carlos Osuna recently performed the role of Odoardo in Handel’s “Ariodante,” Malcolm in Verdi’s “Macbeth,” and Le Comte de Lerme/Herold in “Don Carlos” at the Wiener Staatsoper.

Osuna and Bartneck will join a cast that includes Vincent Wolfsteiner, Marina Prudenskaya, Tomasz Konieczny, and Vida Miknevičiūtė in the title role. Alexander Soddy conducts the production by Boleslaw Barlog.

The ongoing cast changes have been brought on by the COVID-19 outbreak at the Wiener Staatsoper, and the subsequent heavy struggle of the opera house to contain the contagion.
