The Wiener Staatsoper has announced a cast change for its production of Donizetti’s “L’Elisir d’Amore.”

The company announced that Jinxu Xiahou will replace Liparit Avetisyan in the role of Nemorino on Sept. 18 and Bertrand de Billy will replace Giacomo Sagripanti in the pit for the rest of the run.

Xiahou made his Wiener Staatsoper debut in 2012 and became an ensemble member for the company. He has performed in productions of “La Cenerentola,” “Don Pasquale,” “Il Barbiere di Siviglia,” “Macbeth,” and “Otello,” among others.

De Billy is a recognized conductor who has performed at the Metropolitan Opera, Royal Opera, La Monnaie, LA Opera, and Washington National Opera, among others.

Xiahou and De Billy join a cast that includes Pretty Yende, Nicola Alaimo, and Clemens Unterreiner.

This is the second performance of the production that has seen Liparit Avetisyan replaced by another tenor; Javier Camarena previously took over for him.
