Wiener Staatsoper Announces Cast Change for ‘Jenůfa’

The Wiener Staatsoper has announced a cast change for its production of “Jenůfa.”

The company noted that Eliska Weissová will sing the role of Die Küsterin Buryjasingt replacing Violeta Urmana.

Weissová is a Brno Conservatory and Prague Academy graduate who has been a permanent guest of the National Theatre Prague, National Theatre Brno, Theatre Plzeň, Theatre Ústí nad Labem, Opava, State Theatre Košice and National Theatre Bratislava. She is known for such roles as Maddalena, Amneris, Ulrica, Fenena, Grandmother Buryjovka, Santuzza, and La Comtesse di Coigny.

The soprano joins a cast that includes David Butt Philip, Michael, Asmik Grigorian, Margarita Nekrasova, Marcus Pelz, Dan Paul Dumitrescu, Stephanie Houtzeel, Anna Bondarenko, Daria Sushkova, Jenni Hietala, and Maria Nazarova

“Jenůfa” opens on Oct. 9 and runs through Oct. 23, 2022.
