The Wiener Staatsoper has announced a cast change for its revival of “Il Barbiere di Siviglia.”

The company said that Cecilia Molinari will sing the role of Rosina instead of Vasilisa Berzhanskaya in September performances.

Molinari is a well known Italian mezzo who regularly performs Mozart, Donizetti, and Rossini, among others. She has performed at the Dutch National Opera, Opéra Royal de Wallonie, Palau de les Arts, Bolshoi Theatre, Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Teatro Comunale di Bologna, and Teatro Verdi di Trieste.

The mezzo will join a cast that includes Levy Sekgapane, Paolo Bordogna, Peter Kellner, Marco Caria, Ruth Brauer, and Aurora Marthens. Giacomo Sagripanti conducts the production by Herbert Fritsch.

“Il Barbiere di Siviglia” will be performed from Sept. 22 through Sept. 30. The production returns in January with a different cast headed by Alasdair Kent.
