Wiener Staatsoper Announces Cast Change for ‘Die Zauberflöte’

The Wiener Staatsoper has announced a cast change for its production of Mozart’s “Die Zauberflöte”

The company noted that Pavel Petrov will sing the role of Tamino replacing Saimir Pirgu.

Petrov is a winner of the First Prize and the Don Placido Domingo Ferrer Prize of Zarzuela of Operalia and is an ensemble member of the Oper Graz. Over the next seasons, he is set to make debuts at the Lyric Opera of Chicago, Opéra national de Paris, Glyndebourne Festival on tour and Opéra de Lausanne. He has also performed at the Wiener Staatsoper, Royal Opera House, Arena di Verona, Opera Australia, and Salzburger Festspiele.

The tenor will join a cast that includes Ante Jerkunica, Clemens Unterreiner, Federica Guida, Hanna-Elisabeth Müller, Ileana Tonca, and Georg Nigl.

“Die Zauberflöte” is set to open on June 19 and run through June 25, 2022.
