The Wiener Staatsoper has announced a cast change for its performance of “Aida” on Jan. 24.

The company said that Jorge de León will sing the role of Radamès instead of Jonas Kaufmann.

De León recently performed the role of Radamès at the Teatro Real and has also sung it at the Metropolitan Opera, Semperoper Dresden, Arena di Verona, and Teatro alla Scala. The tenor is currently in rehearsals for “La Dolores” at the Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid.

He is set to join a cast that includes Anna Netrebko, Elīna Garanča, and Luca Salsi. Nicola Luisotti conducts the final performance of the run.

Kaufmann returns to the stage to perform the title role of “Andrea Chénier” in Monte-Carlo in February.
