White Snake Projects Presents Second Annual ‘Let’s Celebrate!’

Activist Opera Company, White Snake Projects has announced the second annual “Let’s Celebrate!” its opera series focused on diversity and intersectionality.

The program is comprised of four 20-minute operas alongside traditional holiday works and stories that more closely mirror the demographics of the Boston area. Audiences will enjoy “My Little Coqui” by Iván Enrique Rodriguez, “Jo Dooba So Paar” by Omar Najmi, Avik Sarkar’s “Kali Puja,” and “Tamale Dumpling” by Stephanie Chou. The chosen works are meant to expand the meaning of celebration to include not only holiday festivities, but also the intersection of identities: gender, race, culture, LGBTQ, and/or religion.

Featured soloists are sopranos Erin Merceruio Nelson and Chelsea Baccay, mezzo-sopranos Megan Roth and Jeannette Lee, tenor Michael Gonzales, baritone Joel Clemens, and child soloist Nadia Ruberg. The creative team includes director Laine Rettmer and music director Tianhui Ng.

Each performance will follow a free pre-show panel discussion about the joys and challenges of intersectionality during the holidays. Emerson Paramount Center’s Jackie Liebergott Black Box host the Nov. 18 performances at 2 and 7:30 p.m.
