By Dejan VukosavljevicWest Edge Opera has announced multiple performance options slated for March 2021.
“Snapshot” is a collaboration project between West Edge Opera and Earplay dedicated to presenting new operas from West Coast composers and librettists.
The 2021 Edition of Snapshot will feature works from Nathaniel Stookey, Mark Campbell, Anne LeBaron, Noah Fram, Guang Yang, Paula Cizmar, Marella Martin Koch, Tyler J. Rubin, George Pfirrmann and Peter B. Allen.
Performances will take place on March 13 and March 14, 2021, as socially-distanced live performances at a large outdoor venue as well as a remotely recorded performance made available for patrons to stream.
“Feedback Panel” will feature such names as composer Jake Heggie, publisher Bill Gorjance, General Director of Opera San Jose Khori Dastoor, Artistic Director of the Oakland Symphony Michael Morgan, and former Dramaturg and Music Administrator of San Francisco Opera Clifford Cranna.
“With the pandemic surging, and the timing of a vaccine in doubt, it’s very hard to predict what things will look like for live performance by early spring. We’re choosing to prepare for the worst while allowing for the best, in hopes that a safe, responsible, and artistically satisfying production is possible,” said General Director of West Edge Opera Mark Streshinsky in a statement.
