Welsh National Opera, Garsington Opera, English National Opera Nominated At South Banks Sky Arts Awards 2019

The South Banks Sky Arts Awards has announced its nominations, which include productions by the Welsh National Opera, the Garsington Opera, and the English National Opera.

The awards ceremony will take place on Sunday, July 7, 2019 at the Savoy Hotel. It will be aired on July 10, 2019 on Sky Arts and will be hosted by Melvyn Bragg.

The Welsh National Opera’s “Rhondda Rips It Up!” is the first of the nominations. The work takes a look at suffragette, activist, and entrepreneur Lady Rhondda.

Garsington’s famed production of “Falstaff” was directed by Bruno Ravella and starred Mary Dunleavy, Richard Burkhard, Henry Waddington, Yvonne Howard, Soraya Mafi, Oliver Johnston, Victoria Simmonds, Colin Judson, and Adrian Thompson, among others. This production can be viewed via OperaVision.

Finally, the English National Opera’s “Porgy and Bess” also received a nomination. This production, directed by James Robinson starred Nicole Cabell, Eric Greene, and Latonia Moore, among others. That same production is headed to the Metropolitan Opera where it will open the 2019-20 season.
