Weiner Staatsoper Announces New Director For ‘Orlando’ World Premiere

By Francisco Salazar

The Wiener Staatsoper has announced a director change for its upcoming world premiere of “Orlando.”

The company announced via a press release that by mutual agreement, English director Polly Graham would be directing Olga Neuwirth’s new opera instead of Karoline Gruber.

Slated to world premiere on Dec. 8, 2019, the new staging will feature stage designs by Roy Spahn, lighting by Ulrich Schneider with videos by Will Duke and costumes by Comme des Garçons.

Matthias Pintscher will conduct the production, which will star Kate Lindsey, Eric Jurenas, Constance Hauman, Leigh Melrose, Vivian Bond and Agneta Eichenholz.

The key role of the “Narrator” has to be recast as Fiona Shaw has canceled her participation on short notice due to a film project in the U.S.
